Ancient 3 No.3 is a blue gosu underglaze paste from Fukaumi Shouten, a ceramic materials maker in Arita, Saga Prefecture, Japan. Gosu is the cobalt blue used on Arita blue and white porcelain. This is a 100g paste, imported and sold by GLOST in Peckham, London.
- Maker: Fukaumi Shouten, Arita, Japan
- Type: Japanese gosu underglaze paste
- Size: 100g
- Colour: Blue
- Suitable for: porcelain and ceramics
- Firing: oxidation or reduction, 1230 to 1300°C (from the maker)
How to use. The paste is highly concentrated, so thin it with water to the strength you want. The maker's guide is about one part paste to three of water for line work, and a teaspoon of paste in 80ml of water for a strong wash or 250ml for a pale one. A little gum arabic helps the colour hold if the piece will be handled before firing.
Storage. Keep it airtight. If it dries out, grind it and mix it back to a paste with water.
