Where are your glazes made?

Every glaze is made in small batches at our studio in Peckham, South London. Each batch is weighed, mixed, tested on a tile and fired before it goes on the shelf. No glaze goes out without a fired test.

Customers elsewhere are responsible for any import duties and taxes applied by their country." or "International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes applied by the destination country, which are the customer's responsibility. If your country is not listed, email hello@glost-glaze.com and we’ll arrange a custom order.

Are your glazes food safe?

Food safety depends on the specific glaze, the clay body, and how the ware is fired. Many of our glazes are suitable for functional surfaces when fired correctly and fully matured, but results vary. Always test on your own clay and in your kiln, then check for stability, cutlery-marking and leaching. Read our full guide here: Food safety in ceramic glazes.

Can the glazes be fired to different temperatures than recommended?

Each glaze has a recommended firing range listed on its product page. Firing cooler or hotter can change colour, surface and fit, and may affect durability. If you choose to fire outside the recommended range, run small tests first on your clay body and kiln schedule. We do not guarantee results outside the stated range or in atmospheres other than those specified.

Do you sell to studios and shops?

Yes, we work with wholesale partners in the UK and internationally. Email hello@glost-glaze.com and we will send our wholesale information.

Do you make custom glazes?

Yes. We develop custom glazes for studios, brands and individual makers, whether that means matching an existing surface or developing something entirely new. Every project is quoted individually. Email hello@glost-glaze.com with a description of what you are after. Please note that custom batches are mixed to order and cannot be returned.

Do you take on research and development projects?

Yes. If you have a technical problem, a surface you cannot crack, or a material question that needs proper testing, we take on R&D work. Glaze chemistry is demanding. We think that is the point. Email hello@glost-glaze.com to discuss scope and we will provide a quote.

Do you offer private tuition?

Yes. One-to-one sessions at the Peckham studio can be shaped around your experience and what you want to learn. Tuition is quoted individually. Email hello@glost-glaze.com to arrange.

Do you host private group, corporate or party workshops?

Yes. We host private sessions at the Peckham studio for teams, celebrations and groups, shaped around what you want to make. Each booking is quoted individually. Email hello@glost-glaze.com with your group size and preferred dates and we will put a session together.

What is the difference between your sculptural and functional glazes?

Our sculptural glazes (White Lava, Pink Lava, Moss, Lichen, Sea Foam, Crawl) build texture and dimension: surfaces that bubble, crawl and shift in the kiln. Our functional glazes give smooth, stable, even surfaces suited to everyday ware.

Are your glazes lead-free?

Yes. All GLOST glazes are lead-free.

Are your glazes for brushing or dipping?

GLOST glazes are formulated as brush-on glazes. Apply 2 to 3 thin, even coats with a soft brush, letting each coat dry fully before the next. Our glazes are handmade suspensions, so some settling between uses is normal; mix or shake thoroughly before applying.

Do you sell clay?

Yes. We stock porcelain, stoneware, crank and paper clay bodies, including Audrey Blackman Porcelain, Sapphire Porcelain, Black Ice Porcelain, Crank Stoneware and the Earthstone range, plus stoneware casting slip. All available in the Peckham shop and online, with same-day delivery across London.
