Foundations of Glaze Making - 3 day workshop
£400
This three-day glaze-making workshop provides a comprehensive, beginner-friendly introduction to ceramic glaze chemistry and formulation. Learn the science behind glaze behaviour, material interactions, and practical testing methods through structured daily sessions (11:00–16:00, with 30-minute lunch break). Day one explores essential principles: water content, application techniques, and clay body effects. Create single-material melt tests to observe raw material behaviour firsthand. Day two reviews your fired results, then guides you through biaxial blending using core materials—quartz, feldspar, china clay, and frit—to establish your personal glaze base. Day three focuses on refinement: mix your chosen base glaze and develop variations using metal oxides, stains, and opacifiers. Ideal for potters and ceramic artists seeking to understand glaze structure, deepen material knowledge, and build confidence in repeatable, informed glaze testing. Hands-on demonstrations and guided exercises ensure you leave with both foundational knowledge and the skills to experiment independently.
