GLOST is an artisanal brand born from material obsession and chemical investigation. The name is derived from the transformative qualities of a ‘glost firing’ whereby innocuous materials are assimilated and tested under the process of extreme heat and pressure to produce unique, inspiring and often otherworldly results.

It’s founded by Elena Gileva, an artist and ceramics teacher who has been practising and experimenting with glazes for nearly two decades. She came to realise that many of the important manifestations of her practice; unpredictability, graspability, complexity and community are consolidated in the rich world of glaze making.

In essence GLOST is focussed on the production, teaching and research of ceramic glazes from a studio based in London.

The SHOP - is a small batch assembly line devoted to the meticulous formulation and testing of every glaze, ensuring suitability for small scale ceramic practitioners alike. The absolute priority of GLOST is the production of high quality glazes for sale, made in a limited batch, guaranteeing that each jar is a product of careful craftsmanship and dedication.

The WORKSHOPS - promote self-reliance and confidence in glaze making. The interfold of chemistry and artistry is a challenging and often beguiling practice which once unlocked can offer a lifetime of fascination. We offer classes for beginners all the way up to experts and welcome those from all backgrounds, encouraging those to learn and contribute to the wider community.

The JOURNAL - assists in the sourcing and distribution of in-house research which informs the backbone of the brand. Much of this is done behind the scenes but the endeavour is to share stories, understand the challenges and bridge the gulf between theory and practice.

Using GLOST glaze, artists can realise their creative visions with confidence. The brand is not merely about the final product but embodies the journey of discovery, experimentation, and the creation of distinctive and unique ceramic objects.
